Box Score Despite a 16 point effort from the Yellow Jacket's Maggie Roy, Ferrum College shot 46.3% to get past Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball (2-1) 70-63 on day two of the R-MC Tip-Off Classic.
The Panthers opened up a 6-0 advantage two minutes in on two layups from Brittney Bullock and a basket from Kristen Keith.
Randolph-Macon rallied and pulled within one when Jennifer O'Briant converted a pair of free throws with 10:33 left in the half.
Ferrum responded with a 10-0 spurt capped by a Katy Kipps layup with just over six minutes to play.
Trailing by 14 in the final minute of the half, the Yellow Jackets got a layup from freshman Lindsey Sharman and a three from Maggie Roy to cut the deficit to 37-28 heading into halftime.
Randolph-Macon came out of the locker room with a 10-2 run bookended by a Taylor Wieczorek layup and a pair of free throws that pulled the Jackets to within one at the 15:53 mark.
The Panthers built a ten point lead over the next eight minutes and pushed the lead to 12 on a Bullock layup with 3:56 to play.
Five consecutive points from Maggie Roy pulled R-MC within seven but a foul shot and layup by Bullock put the game away as Ferrum held on for the 70-63 win.
FC shot 46.3% from the field while R-MC shot 35.1% including a 3-for-17 mark from three. The Panthers edged the Jackets 42-35 in rebounding.
Roy scored a game high 16 points to pace the Jackets. Williams and Sharman joined Roy in double figures with 10 points and three rebounds each.
Bullock led the Panthers offense with 15 points and eight boards. Every Ferrum player scored at least three points for the game.
Roy and Williams were named to the 2010 R-MC Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team for the Jackets. Bullock and Keith earned All-Tournament honors for the Panthers.
Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball will open their 2010-11 ODAC scheduled on the road at Eastern Mennonite Tuesday, November 23rd. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
