Box Score Jordan Cantrell's 18 points led four Yellow Jackets in double figures as Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball (1-0 / 0-0 ODAC) took an 86-64 season opening win over Marymount in Arlington on Tuesday.
The Saints led 13-12 with 11:15 remaining in the first half before rallying for eight unanswered points to go up 21-12 with 7:46 left in the half.
Randolph-Macon responded with a 14-4 run sparked when sophomore Madison Dulaney converted two free throw attempts with just over seven minutes to play. Cantrell's lay up four minutes later put the Jackets up 26-25.
A Tajia Johnson layup put the Saints back on top but the Yellow Jackets finished the half on an 11-2 run capped by a Jennifer O'Briant trifecta at the buzzer gave R-MC a 37-29 halftime advantage.
The Saints pulled within five on a foul shot from Amanda Billy with 13:53 to play but that would be as close as Marymount would get as Randolph-Macon answered with a 10-0 run.
R-MC shot 52.9% from the field in the second half and built a 22 point lead to finish off MU 86-64.
Cantrell scored a team high 18 points including a 4-for-6 mark from beyond the arc. Maggie Roy and Katie Williams chipped in with 14 points each while freshman Lindsey Sharman joined in double figures with 10. Randolph-Macon shot 43.7% for the game and went 11-for-30 from three.
Marymount was led offensively by Amanda Billy who scored 18 and pulled in six rebounds. Maame Amponsah finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds for a double-double.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action Friday, November 19th when they host Mary Washington at 6:00 in the first round of the R-MC Tip-Off Classic. Roanoke College will take on Ferrum in game two of the tournament which is slated for an 8:00 tip-off.
