Box Score ASHLAND, VA--Maggie Roy scored 18 points and knocked down four
three pointers in the second half alone, but Bridgewater overcame
Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball 68-57 in Ashland Sunday
afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fall to 13-4 (11-2 ODAC) with the
loss while the Eagles improve to 10-6 (7-5 ODAC).
Bridgewater came out firing to start the game, taking a 19-8
lead when Jackie Buckley converted a layup with 13:24 to play in
the first half.
R-MC scored the next four points on baskets from Ariail (York,
PA/ York Suburban) and Jordan Cantrell (Washington, NC/ Washington)
to cut the BC lead to 19-12 with 9:22 to play.
The Eagles would then finish the first half on a 16-6 run
sparked by a Bianca Booker layup and finished off with a Lacey
Barnett jumper, to put Bridgewater up 35-18 at halftime.
Randolph-Macon rallied in the second half with a 22-6 run
bookended by Ariail who started the run with a layup and capped it
when she converted a foul shot with 11:32 remaining. Roy (Richmond,
VA/ Mills Godwin) scored nine points during the run which cut the
Bridgewater lead to two at 47-45.
Jordan Burkholder responded with a layup for BC to stretch the
lead back to four before Roy knocked down one of her four three
pointers of the second half for R-MC to bring the Yellow Jackets to
within one.
With 8:25 to play Burkholder hit a two point jumper to put the
Eagles up 51-48.
Roy struck again on the next possession with a three to tie the
game before Ariail sunk a layup with 5:52 to play, giving
Randolph-Macon their first lead of the ballgame 53-51.
Bridgewater then used a 7-0 run to regain the lead and pull away
for the 68-57 win. This was the Yellow Jackets first home loss in
nearly a year and just their third home loss in three seasons.
Roy led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points, Ariail picked up a
double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Burkholder led all scorers with 28 points while also pulling in
five rebounds and five steals. Jenny Logan joined her in double
figures with 11 points.
Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball returns to the court Tuesday,
February 2nd, when they host Randolph College at 7:00
p.m.
