Randolph-Macon Tops Eastern Mennonite for 10th Straight ODAC Win

ASHLAND, VA - Molly Ariail dropped in 20 points to lead Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball past Eastern Mennonite 65-61 for their 10th consecutive ODAC victory. The Yellow Jackets improve to 13-3 (11-1 ODAC) while the Royals fall to 12-4 (8-4 ODAC).

Randolph-Macon jumped to an early 15 point advantage when Taylor Wieczorek (Grasonville, MD/ Severn) capped a 22-7 opening run on a two point jumper with 7:57 remaining in the first stanza.

The Yellow Jackets maintained the 15 point edge throughout the first half and took a 38-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

R-MC continued their hot shooting into the second half with an 11-2 run sparked by a three pointer from Maggie Roy (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) and finished off by an Ariail (York, PA/ York Suburban) jumper to put the Yellow Jackets up 49-25 with 16:47 to go.

Eastern Mennonite rallied with an 11-0 run later in the half, cutting the deficit down to single digits at 58-50. Brittany Snyder started the run with a two at the 8:55 mark and later capped the run when she converted two free throws.

Jillian Asay (Chesterfield, NJ/ No. Burlington Co.) scored the next seven R-MC points, the final coming on a three pointer with 3:48 to play, stretching the Yellow Jackets' lead to eleven.

Snyder and Addie Bashorun then pulled EMU to pull within five on back to back three pointers, 3:03 to play. Melissa Lewis knocked down one of two foul shots, leaving the Royals down four at 65-61 with just over two minutes to play.

Defense prevailed over the final two minutes and Randolph-Macon held on for the 65-61 victory.

Ariail picked up her 11th double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Wieczorek and Roy joined Ariail in double figures; Wieczorek had 13 points and six rebounds while Roy chipped in with 11.

Snyder led four Royals in double figures with 14 points. Lewis finished with 13 points, Sarah Lamneck had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball returns to the court Saturday, January 30th, when they host Bridgewater College at 2:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the R-MC Men's Basketball team. Donations will be accepted throughout both contests to benefit the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. A 50/50 raffle will also take place at halftime of the Men's game.
