Box Score GREENSBORO, NC-Sophomore guard Maggie Roy scored a game high 24
points, including six made three pointers as Randolph-Macon Women's
Basketball improved to 9-3 (7-1 ODAC) with an 87-59 win over
Guilford College Friday in Greensboro.
Randolph-Macon methodically built an 11 point lead early in the
first half before Roy (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) sparked an 18-3
run with a layup with 6:18 left to play in the first stanza. Roy
capped the run on one of her six made three pointers in the game,
putting the Yellow Jackets up 42-18 with 3:42 remaining in the
first half.
The teams then traded baskets throughout the remaining minutes
of the half and Randolph-Macon took a 49-27 advantage into the
locker room.
Guilford cut the Randolph-Macon lead to 18 just after halftime
when Jazlyn Gibbs knocked down a free throw to bring the score to
50-32 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC Senior Molly Ariail (York, PA/ York Suburban) dropped in a
layup with 16:18 to go, igniting a 10-0 run, finished off with a
fastbreak layup from Katie Williams (Warrenton, VA/ Fauquier) to
put the Yellow Jackets up 60-32 with 14:36 remaining.
Randolph-Macon would continue to pull away, leading by as many
as 30 in the second half before winning by a final of 87-59
R-MC's Roy led all scorers with 24 points. Ariail notched her
eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Williams chipped in with nine points and five boards while Jennifer
O'Briant (Chesterfield, VA/ Manchester) tied a career high with
eight assists.
The Quakers were led offensively by Joclyn Terry who went for 10
points and four rebounds. Alexa Williams chipped in with eight
points and six boards as Guilford falls to 8-6 (5-4 ODAC) on the
season.
Randolph-Macon returns to the court Saturday, January
16th, when they visit Emory & Henry for a 4:00 p.m.
game.
