(Box
Score)
BALTIMORE, MD - Andrew Kase's one yard touchdown run with 49
seconds left to go in the game, propelled Johns Hopkins to a 35-31
victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
The loss spoiled a record setting day for R-MC receiver Earl
Peoples who set a school record with 216 yards on seven catches.
People's day also marked the 10th best singe game
performance in ODAC history.
Yellow Jackets' quarterback Austin Faulkner was 16-for-28 for
287 yards and one touchdown. Steve Mathews carried the ball 29
times for 74 yards and three scores.
Kase paced the Blue Jays with 111 yards on the ground and a pair
of scoring runs. JHU's Hewitt Tomlin was 17-of-23 for 161 yards and
a pair of touchdown tosses.
The first-half featured six touchdowns and 444 yards of total
offense between the two teams. On its second possession of the game
R-MC charged 70 yards in eight plays and Mathews punched home a one
yard TD run to put the Yellow Jackets up 7-0.
JHU came right back on its ensuing possession, taking only 2:07
to go 62 yards, scoring on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Tomlin to
Sam Wernick.
The Blue Jays took advantage of a miscue in the R-MC punting
game when they recovered a bad snap on the Jackets seven yard line
and returned it for a touchdown to go up 14-7 with 7:40 to go in
the first-half.
The Jackets responded with an 8-play, 70 yard drive that
included several key third conversion passes by Faulker and a one
yard TD plunge by Mathews to tie the game at 14 with 3:02 to go.
JHU looked to be taking a 21-14 lead into the locker room at
halftime when Tomlin connected with Tucker Michels on a fade pass
in the corner of the end zone with 42 seconds to go in the half.
Instead, the Jackets took over at their own 24 yard line and
stuck for a 70 yard gain when Faulkner found Peoples streaking down
the right sideline. The long pass play set up a six yard, play
action scoring strike from Faulkner to tight end Ben Keyser,
sending the game to the intermission tied at 21.
JHU took the opening kickoff of the second-half and wasted no
time continuing the offensive fireworks , taking just 2:41 to 71
yards and taking a 28-21 lead on a two yard run by Kase.
Randolph-Macon fired right back, taking their first chance of
the second-half and tying the score 28 all on another one yard dive
from Mathews and then took a 31-28 advantage on a 20 yard field
goal by Josh Storm with 11:59 to go in the game.
Scott Shope led R-MC with 14 tackles, while Jeremy Bowry and
Gamal Alwan had nine and seven stops, respectively for R-MC.
Mike Milano, Mike Mahon and Tyler Brown all made a team-best
nine tackles on the day for the Blue Jays.

travels to Shenandoah for a 7:00 p.m. non conference match up.
