Christopher Newport Slips by R-MC 2-1 in Season

ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon
Men's Soccer mounted a late rally against Christopher Newport
Tuesday before falling 2-1 in their season opener. Thomas Eacho
netted R-MC's goal in 88th minute while Yellow Jacket Keeper Colin
Royster collected seven saves.
Christopher Newport struck first with an
unassisted goal from Cliff Kipper in the tenth minute. Both
defenses held strong for the rest of the first half leaving CNU
with the 1-0 advantage.
Two minutes into the second half, Captains'
midfielder Denny Arinello found the back of the net to put
Christopher Newport up 2-0.
The R-MC defense and keeper Colin Royster
stepped up to hold CNU scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Royster collected a total of seven saves for the match.
Yellow Jackets senior Thomas Eacho netted an
Andrew Parham pass in the eighty-eighth minute to put
Randolph-Macon within striking distance. R-MC made several late
charges but the Christopher Newport defense did not allow another
shot on goal and the Captains sealed the 2-1 victory.
R-MC Men's Soccer is back in action Saturday, September
5th at 3:00 p.m. when they take on Washington (Md.)
