Randolph-Macon Defeats Guilford 80-49 in Women's
Basketball Action
Greensboro, NC - Every Randolph-Macon player pulled down a
rebound as the Yellow Jackets defeated Guilford 80-49 Friday night.
Molly Ariail shot 10-for-11 from the field en route to a 21-point
performance. Amanda Hiltunen registered 18 points, five rebounds,
and a game-high six assists, while Taylor Wieczorek tallied 12
points and led all players with six rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the contest. They
built a quick seven-point lead just five minutes into the game.
R-MC earned a 21-point lead by the end of the first half, leading
47-26 at the break.
In addition to Ariail, Hiltunen, and Wieczorek, freshman
Maggie Roy added 11 points for R-MC. Guilford's Tracey Croner led
the Quakers with 21 points.
The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Quakers 47-25. R-MC
shot 51.8% from the floor, including 41.2% from behind the arc,
while Guilford converted 34.5% of its field goal attempts and hit
one three-pointer all night.
R-MC improves to 19-5 overall and 16-3 in Old Dominion
Athletic Conference play. Guilford falls to 10-14 and 9-10 in the
ODAC. R-MC moves into a tie for first-place in the conference
standings with Roanoke. The Maroons lost to Washington &
Lee on Friday 65-54.
The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on
Saturday at Emory & Henry. Game time is set for 4:00. R-MC will
then prepare for the ODAC Tournament, which kicks off Thursday. The
Yellow Jackets will play their Quarterfinal game at either 1:00 or
6:00. The Semifinals and Championship are scheduled for Saturday
and Sunday. All ODAC Tournament games are held at the Salem Civic
Center in Salem, Virginia.
