1,000th Career Point
(Box
Score)
Ashland, Va. - Amanda Hiltunen scored 29 points, including
her 1,000th career tally, to fuel R-MC past Lynchburg
97-87 on Monday. The senior guard shot 7-for-11 from the field,
15-for-15 from the foul line, and dished 10 assists in the Yellow
Jackets' first conference win of the season. R-MC junior Molly
Ariail tallied 23 points, while Lynchburg's Kylie Lucas led the
Hornets with 21.
R-MC outscored Lynchburg 51-38 in the first half. However,
the Hornets rallied to pull within 4 points, cutting the Yellow
Jacket lead to 82-78 with 6 minutes remaining in the second stanza.
Freshman Jillian Asay responded by converting a layup and free
throw to spark a 9-2 R-MC run that put the Yellow Jackets ahead
91-80 with 3:52 remaining in the second half. Lynchburg could not
recover as R-MC sealed the ten-point victory.
In addition to scoring her 1,000th career
point, Hiltunen became the second player in the history of the ODAC
to shoot 15-for-15 from the free throw line. R-MC's Megan Silva is
the only conference player to convert more foul shots without
missing in a single game. She shot 16-for-16 on December 16, 2005.
The Yellow Jackets improve their record to 3-1 (1-1 ODAC),
while the Hornets drop to 1-4 (0-2 ODAC). R-MC will be back in
action at home on Saturday when it welcomes archrival Bridgewater
College to Ashland for a 4:30 p.m. ODAC game.
