"I'm excited to welcome Brent back to the RMC family," said Burns. "His pedigree as a student-athlete and assistant coach at institutions such as Carnegie Mellon and Mary Washington, in addition to his previous work with our program, makes him a natural fit to help continue the success of the women's program and guide the men's program as it is starts its path to the same success."
While at CMU, he was involved in all aspects of the Tartans programs, including recruiting, on-deck training, dryland, conditioning and event management. During his three years there the coaching staff was awarded the University Athletic Association Male coaching staff of the year award twice.
In 2010-11, Kintzer mentored two men's swimmers to the NCAA Championships with one earning All-American status. On the women's side, six swimmers went to the NCAA Championships with four taking home All-American honors. The men's team finished second in the UAA for the fourth year in a row while the women placed third.
The 2009-10 season was one of the best for the men's program as all seven athletes who competed at the NCAA Championships earned All-America or All-America Honorable Mention honors. Five of those athletes earned their first-ever award as the team finished 15th in the nation. The team also finished second at the UAA meet for the third year and set two school records.
In 2009-2010, the women's team finished fourth at the UAA Championships, set two relay records and two individual school records while eight swam provisional qualifying marks. In his first season with the Tartans in 2008-09, the men's team sent six men to the national meet, with two All-American results, while the women had one swimmer compete and earn All-American recognition.
"I am excited about returning to Randolph-Macon College," said Kintzer. "With the success that the women have had and the addition of a men's team it is a great time to be at RMC. I look forward to building on past success while starting new traditions. The supportive College and athletic department will help move this swimming program in a positive direction."
Kintzer is no stranger to the R-MC community after serving as an assistant coach in 2006-07 when the program captured its first ODAC Championship.
Prior to his stop in Ashland, Kintzer spent two years as an assistant at his alma mater Mary Washington.
He was a four-time all-conference selection and captain of the team his senior year. While swimming for Mary Washington, Kintzer helped the team to four conference titles. Following graduation, Kintzer joined Matt Kinney's UMW staff and in 2004-05 helped mentor the Eagles to conference championships for both the men's and women's teams. That same year, one male swimmer advanced to the NCAA meet, earning All-America honors. The women had five females make "B" cuts, two advance to the NCAA meet with one earning All-America honors.
Kintzer graduated from Mary Washington with a bachelor's degree in business administration and received his Masters of Science in sports management and leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in August of 2006.
