R-MC Women’s Volleyball Earns 3-2 Victory at #16 Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team rallied to win the final two games to post a 3-2 win at No. 16 Juniata on Saturday evening.

The Yellow Jackets split a pair of games. R-MC fell 3-1 to Arcadia in the day's first matchup.

R-MC 3, #16 Juniata 2

The Yellow Jackets trailed early in Game 1 before tallying two straight points for an 11-10 lead. The Eagles took control with seven consecutive points for a 17-11 advantage. JC would register a 25-19 win.

R-MC had narrow leads early in the second game before taking a 15-11 lead. The Eagles would get within two, but the visitors pulled out a 25-22 lead. R-MC had a hit percentage of .286 and committed just one hitting error.

JC would use a six-point run to take an 8-2 lead in Game 3. The lead grew to 12-3 and to 23-13 before the Eagles recorded a 25-17 win.

The Yellow Jackets led early in the fourth game before the Eagles went up 7-6. R-MC scored four straight points and would not trail again. The advantage grew to 18-14 and 21-17 before JC would pull with one at 22-21 and 23-22. The Yellow Jackets would hold on for a 25-23 win, with a hit percentage of .342.

The teams were tied at 10-10 before three straight points by the Eagles gave them a 13-10 advantage. Following a timeout, JC had a pair of attack errors to pull the visitors within one. Seniors Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Alexia Wolfe (Midlothian, Va./James River) had kills to give R-MC a 14-13 edge. After a JC timeout, sophomore Macguire Gubba (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) had a service ace to clinch the victory over the nationally-ranked Eagles.

Hall finished with 11 kills and Wolfe added 10. Senior Angela Tender (Manassas, Va./Stone Bridge) had 20 assists and Gubba recorded 18. Sophomore Madison Warlick (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) delivered 19 digs, while freshman Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and junior Mackenzie Loewe (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) both had a dozen. Senior Kai Cunningham (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had seven block assists. Wolfe and senior Bailey Jones (Suffolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) had five block assists, while sophomore Sydney Koch (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) added four.

Arcadia 3, R-MC 1

The Knights jumped out to a 4-1 lead in Game 1 before the Yellow Jackets rallied to take a 7-6 edge. The game was tied at 10-10 before AU scored 14 of the next 15 points on its way to a 25-12 win.

R-MC was able to build a 22-19 advantage in the second game before the Knights scored six of the final seven points to post a 25-23 win.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 6-2 lead in Game 3. AU would tie the game at 9-9 before R-MC scored eight of nine points for a 17-10 advantage. Two kills by Wolfe sealed a 25-20 victory.

R-MC started with a 6-3 edge before AU went up 8-7. The Knights would extend their lead to 18-11. The Yellow Jackets would rally to pull within one at 20-19. AU would get five of the final six points to seal the win at 25-20.

Wolf led R-MC with 11 kills. Tender and Gubba both had 18 assists. Warlick had 16 digs and Parker picked up 15. Cunningham had seven block assists, while Hall, Wolfe, Jones and Koch all had four.

Randolph-Macon will host Shenandoah on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in Crenshaw Gym. It will be the regular-season home finale and Senior Night, as the Yellow Jackets will honor their seven seniors.
