FOREST, Va. – Randolph-Macon sophomore middle hitter Sydney Koch (Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week it was announced Monday. Koch earned the honor after a week that saw Randolph-Macon play in two key conference matchups.
Against Washington and Lee on Wednesday, Koch grabbed nine kills and four blocks. A day later against Hollins, she pulled in 11 kills and three blocks, one of which was a solo block. Against Hollins, she also set down a service ace. Throughout the entire week, Koch made 38 attacks, while not making a single error. She finished with a .526 hitting percentage for the week.
The effort placed Koch atop the Division III National Rankings for hitting percentage at a season clip of .463, meaning Koch makes a kill 46% of the time she attacks the ball. Koch is also in the Top 25 in the ODAC for kills and kills-per-set and is in the Top 10 in the conference for total blocks with 48. She has hit better than .400 in 11-of-15 matches played, including five of her past six outings.
This is Koch's first weekly honor from the conference in her career. The 2018 All-ODAC Third Team selection is also the first Yellow Jacket honored as Player of the Week since the final week of the 2017 season.
Randolph-Macon is 12-3 on the season, including a perfect 6-0 in the ODAC thus far. The Yellow Jackets will face ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach tomorrow night at 7PM before traveling to Colorado for four non-conference matches beginning Friday at 3:00 PM EST.
