Virginia Beach, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team won its first game of the season 3-0 against the St. Catherine University Wildcats. The Yellow Jackets won 25-22, 25-19 and 25-14. The game was part of the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va.
Senior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) led the R-MC offense with 12 kills in 27 attempts. She also added a service ace to the team's effort and dug up 12 volleys for R-MC.
Sophomore Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) added seven kills in 18 attempts. Newcomer freshman Angela Tender (Manassas, Va./Stone Bridge) also killed six volleys in 18 attempts. She added two blocks, one of them being a solo effort. Tender also had two service aces in the match.
Junior Emily Fitzwater (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) also led the defensive side with four blocks total, one of them being a solo block and three being assisted.
The tournament continues Saturday in Virginia Beach with the Yellow Jackets taking on Cabrini at 10:00 A.M. and Benedictine (Ill.) at 2:00 P.M.
