Hinson and Aud Win Doubles Match Against WC

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash) and sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) defeated their Shorewomen opponents Sunday afternoon, but Washington College was able to take the rest of the slate and defeated the Yellow Jackets 8-1 in Sunday afternoon non-conference action at the Banks Tennis Center.

Washington College (6-1) was able to win in both #1 and #2 doubles, as the R-MC #1 duo of junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and sophomore Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) lost to WC #1, Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez 3-8. #2 duo of junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) found similar struggles with Washington College's #2, Sarah Bruno and Kirstin Fillopoulos, losing 5-8.

But R-MC found success at #3 doubles. Hinson and Aud held off a run by Ella Samer and Riley Katzmen, taking the win 8-5. With the win, the duo remains undefeated on the season at 3-0.

But from there, Washington College was able to sweep the singles competition.

In #1 Singles Tersigni was not able to overcome Lazer, dropping her match 1-6, 4-6. Tersigni is now 4-3, all from the #1 Singles spot. #2 Singles competitor Yeager dropped her match to her opponent Rachel Martinez 0-6, 3-6. 

In #3 Singles, Dantzler forced a tie-breaking set with her opponent Fillopoulos. Fillopoulos won the first set 1-6 before Dantzler took the second set 6-4. With the tie-break needed, Dantzler battled with her opponent before Fillopoulous took the decisive set 1-0 with an 11-9 score.

#4 Singles competitor, Uzer, dropped her sets to Samer 1-6, 3-6, while #6 singles, junior Tory Stribling (Troy, Va. / Fluvanna County) lost 6-4, 6-3.

In #5 Singles, Aud forced a tiebreak with Bruno, winning the first set 7-5. Bruno was able to take the second set 6-0 before defeating Aud in the decisive set 1-0 with a 10-2 score.

Randolph-Macon (4-3, 2-1 ODAC) will host Guilford in a rescheduled match on Friday, March 30 at 4:00 PM at the Banks Tennis Center. A tennis fundraiser is also scheduled for the R-MC team on April 7 at 10:00 AM For information, contact head coach Charles Gray at
