FOREST, Va. – Randolph-Macon senior forward Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) has been named ODAC Player of the Week for women's soccer after netting three game-winning goals in three matches.
The Yellow Jackets opened the week by hosting Meredith on Wednesday. Nelson scored five minutes into the game as R-MC posted a 3-0 victory over the Avenging Angels.
Over the weekend, R-MC travelled to our nation's capital to participate in the DC Classic Catholic Tournament. The Yellow Jackets met Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon. R-MC held a 1-0 lead at halftime before Nelson put in two goals early in the second half as the Yellow Jackets registered a 4-1 win.
R-MC met host Catholic on Sunday afternoon. Nelson scored midway through the first half to snap a scoreless tie. Nelson assisted on a goal by sophomore forward Nicole Czyzewski (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) in the second half as the Yellow Jackets downed the Cardinals 2-0. Nelson was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nelson leads the ODAC with five goals and 12 points. She has recorded at least one point in each of R-MC's first five matches this season. Nelson has at least one goal in each of the past four contests.
R-MC has started the season 5-0 for the first time since 1995.
Randolph-Macon will travel to Mary Washington on Wednesday, Sept. 11 for a 4:30 p.m. match.
