Dana Wood is in his 19th year as an assistant coach for Kevin Proffitt.

Wood, a 1976 graduate of Randolph-Macon College, was a member of the Yellow Jacket’s baseball program under legendary head coach Hugh Stephens. He has helped with the continued success of the softball program, including 2015 and 2023  ODAC championships, 5 NCAA Tournament appearances with 3 Regional Championships, 3 Super Regionals, and a 2019 College World Series appearance.

Wood began his coaching career in 1989, and in 1994, was instrumental in starting the Ashland Little League fast pitch softball division. He has also coached AAU baseball teams to several state titles. Wood also coached 10 years at Patrick Henry High School where the Patriots captured the Colonial District Championship in 2006, 2007, and 2010.

Away from the diamond, Wood is an avid supporter of all Yellow Jacket athletics. He and his wife Cathy live just outside of Ashland, and enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
