VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sophomore Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) recorded two hits and three RBI in the first game, and sophomore Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) had two hits, two runs and knocked in a pair as the 13th-ranked Randolph-Macon softball team posted two more wins in the Beach Blast to extend its win streak to 11.
The Yellow Jackets (11-1) defeated Manhattanville 11-2 in five innings in the first game and downed Oswego 9-3 in Game 2.
In Game 1, R-MC put up four in the top of the first, as Davidson had an RBI single, senior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va./Brunswick) drove in a run with a fielder's choice, and Sanderford stroked a two-run single with two away.
Freshman Kaitlyn Deeter (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) added a run-scoring single in the third as R-MC took a 5-0 advantage.
After the Valiants (5-4) homered in the top of the fourth, the Yellow Jackets erupted for five in the bottom of the frame. Junior Brittany LaPrade (Quinton, Va./New Kent) had a two-run single, Deeter and Sanderford drove in one each with base hits, and the final run came in on an error to extend the advantage to 10-1.
MC had a second homer in top of the fifth before R-MC ended it in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring single by junior Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./Essex).
Junior Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) reached base from the leadoff spot, going 3 for 3 with a double, a walk and a run. Wood had two hits and two runs, while Sanderford added two hits and three RBI. LaPrade and Deeter both drove in a pair.
Deeter had the defensive play of the game as she robbed a home run from the Valiants, catching a long fly ball in left and falling over the temporary fence, but holding onto the ball.
Junior Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) earned the victory to improve to 5-1. She allowed five hits and two runs in five innings with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets kept the offense going in the top of the first inning of Game 2. Roth and Wood both had singles and steals before scoring on a double by Davidson. Deeter reached on an error to drive in Davidson, making it 3-0.
The Lakers (1-1) put up two in the bottom of the first to make it a one-run game before R-MC added single runs in the third and fourth. Davidson singled and was driven in by LaPrade to make it 4-2 in the third. An inning later, sophomore Maddie Stone (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) drew a one-out walk, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Roth to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-2 advantage.
R-MC finished the scoring in the sixth. Sophomore Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./St. Margaret's) had an RBI single, Stone delivered a run-scoring double and came home on a passed ball, and Jones added a run-scoring single to make the final 9-2.
Davidson went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
Freshman Kayley Scott (Henrico, Va./Lee-Davis) worked the first five innings with five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts to improve to 5-0.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, March 13 with a 2 p.m. home doubleheader with Emory.
