ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Nelda Bagley (Kenbridge, Va./Central) had seven strikeouts in the opener and junior Madison Gilman (Glen Allen, Va./Patrick Henry) delivered a three-run double in the nightcap as the Randolph-Macon softball team lost an ODAC doubleheader to Virginia Wesleyan.
The Marlins (14-4, 4-2) took the opener 9-1 and won 7-3 in Game 2.
After the Marlins scored a pair in the top of the first in Game 1, senior Amanda Sopko (Skippers, Va./Greensville) drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a throwing error by the catcher, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on the front end of a double steal to make it 2-1.
VWC scored multiple runs in four of its six at-bats in the opener.
The Marlins built a 7-0 lead in the fifth before Sopko and junior Sierra Ford (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had one-out singles and Jarvis reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Gilman launched a double to center to clear the bases and make it a 7-3 contest.
Ford finished with two hits for the Yellow Jackets (7-5, 3-3).
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, March 25 for a 3 p.m. home doubleheader with Methodist.
