GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Freshman Austin Brooks (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) sank a par putt on No. 18 as the Randolph-Macon men's golf team won the Ted Keller Memorial by one stroke on Sunday afternoon at The Dominion Club.
"I am very proud of this team," said Tim Wehner, R-MC men's golf coach. "It is an honor to win the Ted Keller Memorial for the first time in program history. Ted was a great coach and administrator at R-MC and it means a lot for me and the team to win this title."
The Yellow Jackets edged Franklin & Marshall by one shot to win the Ted Keller Memorial for the first time in program history, finishing first out of 12 teams. Mary Washington was third and Division II Virginia Union finished fourth.
Brooks finished tied for fourth out of 63 individuals at 149 (72-77). He carded a pair of birdies and had 12 pars, including eight on the back nine.
Freshman Nathan Wright (Sagaponack, N.Y./East Hampton) was second on the team and tied for sixth overall at 150 (76-74). Wright birdied three of his first four holes. He had 11 pars, including eight on the back nine.
Freshman Zach Boote (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) was one shot behind Wright and tied for 10th at 151 (76-75). He had three birdies and 11 pars, including two birdies and 10 pars on his first 12 holes.
Freshman Nick Schnur (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Germantown Academy) shot 156 (76-80). Schnur birdied No. 12 and had 10 pars.
Randolph-Macon will participate in the VSGA State Intercollegiate on Oct. 14-15 at the Blacksburg Country Club.
