R-MC First, Brooks Second after Round 1 of Ted Keller Memorial

GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Freshman Austin Brooks (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) shot even-par 72 to sit in second in the individual standings and help the Randolph-Macon men's golf team take the top spot in the team standings after the first round of the Ted Keller Memorial at The Dominion Club.

The Yellow Jackets have an eight-shot lead over Division II Virginia Union and nine strokes over Hampden-Sydney and Mary Washington.

Brooks recorded four birdies, two on the front nine and two on the back. He also had 10 pars. Brooks is two shots behind leader Ahmad Reedus of Virginia Union, who aced No. 17 as part of his 2-under 70.

R-MC had three freshmen tie for 10th at 76: Nathan Wright (Sagaponack, N.Y./East Hampton), Nick Schnur (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Zach Boote (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic). Wright birdied No. 15 and recorded 14 pars. Schnur had four birdies, including three on the back nine. He also had 10 pars. Boote birdied three of the first 10 holes and registered 11 pars.

Junior Grant Burchette (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) shot 86 and freshman Miles Lesko (Stanardsville, Va./William Monroe) fired an 83 playing as an individual.

The second and final round will be played on Sunday, Sept. 22.
