Wilson Works for 18 Points as R-MC Falls at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - Junior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) hit six of eight three-pointers for 18 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team lost 85-76 at Averett Sunday evening.

The Yellow Jackets (1-4) sank 16 of 25 treys (64%).

Sophomore Mike Silverthorn (Hackettstown, N.J./Blair Academy) buried five shots behind the arc for 15 points. Senior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) added 13 points and junior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) had 12 points.

Moore and Taylor hit jumpers early to give R-MC a 4-0 lead. Taylor hit a three-pointer with 16:35 left to give the Yellow Jackets a 9-7 advantage, their final lead of the contest. The Cougars (4-1) scored six straight to go ahead 13-9. R-MC trailed 16-15 before Averett used a 16-4 spurt to take a 32-19 edge with 7:40 remaining in the first half. The Yellow Jackets had an 11-3 run to make it 35-30 with 4:50 left in the period. The Cougars closed on a 9-2 run to give Averett a 44-32 lead at intermission.

R-MC trailed 55-43 before scored 10 straight to make it 55-53 with 12 minutes left in the second period. The Cougars put up 11 in a row to lead 66-53 with eight minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets again trailed by 13 at 74-61 before a 7-0 spurt made it 74-68 with 2:15 left. Averett would hold on for an 85-76 victory.

Freshman Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) led R-MC with six rebounds. Moore paced the Yellow Jackets with seven assists.

Randolph-Macon begins ODAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at Lynchburg.
