ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) matched his season high with 21 points as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped a 74-65 decision to Christopher Newport Tuesday evening.
Junior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) tallied 19 off the bench for the Yellow Jackets (1-3).
Junior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) hit a pair of three-pointers for R-MC as the home team took an early 6-3 lead. The Yellow Jackets held an 18-17 lead before the Captains (3-0) used an 8-1 run to take a 25-19 advantage with 7:30 remaining in the half. A three-point play by Moore capped an 8-2 spurt as the Yellow Jackets tied it at 27 with 5:15 left in the period. CNU closed the half on a 15-4 run to take a 42-31 lead at the break. Moore had nine points in the half to lead R-MC.
CNU pushed the lead to 13 at 50-37 early in the second period before three-pointers by Taylor and sophomore Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) pulled the Yellow Jackets within seven at 50-43 with 15 minutes remaining. R-MC could not get the deficit before seven, as the Captains claimed the 74-65 victory.
Noe had five points and led R-MC with six rebounds. Wilson had four assists to go along with his six points.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. at Averett.
