FOREST, Va. – Randolph-Macon sophomore Katie Brookman (Culpeper, Va. / Eastern View) was selected as the final Old Dominion Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for this Fall. Brookman earned the honor after collecting six goals in two games, including the game-winner against Virginia Wesleyan.
That's where her week started; the Yellow Jackets faced the Marlins in windy and tough conditions in Virginia Beach in a match that had playoff seeding implications. After getting down 2-0, the Yellow Jackets stormed back, partially on the stick of Brookman, who scored the first goal in the 34th minute. After junior Katie Tanner (Spotsylvania, Va. / Riverbend) added the second R-MC goal, Brookman then nailed the game winner, just left of the goalie after a penalty corner insert by senior Liz Jacobs (Laurel, Md. / Atholton) who earned the assist.
Brookman went on to put on a clinic against Ferrum on Saturday afternoon. She scored four times, including three in a row against the Panthers, which spanned the third and fourth quarters. Her goal in the first quarter in the 7th minute was considered the game-winner as R-MC shut out the Panthers.
Brookman's selection as Player of the Week marks the first such honor in her career. Brookman is R-MC's second Player of the Week this season. Junior Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Richmond, Va./Trinity) earned the honor for the week that ended on October 14. The last time the Yellow Jackets earned two Player of the Week honors in the same season was in 2013 when then-juniors Carrie Jacobs '15 and Catherine Pricone '15 were selected across the same season.
