FOREST, Va. – Randolph-Macon senior running back Tre Frederick (Angier, N.C./West Johnston) has been named ODAC Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Yellow Jackets rally past Averett 30-28 on Saturday evening and breaking the ODAC's career rushing record.
Frederick had 29 carries for 198 yards against the Cougars. His lone touchdown was a 33-yard sprint with 1:14 remaining in the contest to give R-MC its first lead of the game at 28-27. During the final game-winning drive of nine plays and 65 yards, Frederick carried it seven times for 56 yards.
The Yellow Jackets erased an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter by scoring the final 21 points, all in the final period. It was the largest comeback for the Yellow Jackets in the 16-year career of R-MC head coach Pedro Arruza.
Frederick leads the ODAC with 45 carries and 260 rushing yards this season.
On the career rushing list, Frederick now has 4,316 yards. He passed the total of 4,276 by former Yellow Jacket Remon Smith (1984-87) for the program and ODAC record. Frederick is seventh on the career rushing list for the state of Virginia.
Frederick has 776 career rushing attempts, the second-highest total in ODAC history. He trails the total of 786 by Anthony Lawrence of Bridgewater (1986-89).
Randolph-Macon (1-1) will begin ODAC play by hosting Emory & Henry on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. on Day Field as part of Family Weekend.
