RICHMOND, Va. - Randolph-Macon's Dance team competed at the Live! Richmond Cheer and Dance competition held at the Richmond Convention Center on Saturday, April 13.
The dance team finished with top honors, earning a bid to compete at the US Finals National Cheer and Dance Championships.
Dancers have been training for this competition since mid-January, learning new choreography and trick skills to increase performance appeal and routine difficulty.
"Our spirit program generally places more emphasis on performances related to school athletics and campus organizations, so having the opportunity to compete for a chance at a national title is both unique and rewarding," said Coach Susan Cassidy.
Crowd participation and enthusiasm are taken into account by the judges as part of the team's "Overall Impression" category on their score sheet.
Coach Cassidy would like to thank all of the Randolph-Macon students and family members who came down to support. The team also had large crowd gathered by local All Star cheer gym, Cheer Extreme Richmond, which helped provide competition-style and size training space for the team.
The dance team will compete at US Finals competition on Sunday, May 5 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Tryouts for both the cheer and dance teams will be held Saturday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Crenshaw Gymnasium. For more information about the spirit program or tryouts, please contact Coach Susan Cassidy at 804-687-5430 or email at SusanCassidy@rmc.edu.
