Box Score READING, PA -- The Randolph-Macon College Men's Basketball team erased at 10 point halftime deficit and rallied to top Rutgers-Newark 73-72 in overtime at the Albright Tip-Off Tournament Friday evening.
R-MC got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Lamar Giggetts, while Andre Simon had 16 points and nine boards in win. Calvin Croskey also added 10 points in the victory as well.
The Yellow Jackets were sluggish in the first-half, making just 8-of-28 shots from the floor. Dylan Cole made a basket with just over 10 minutes left in the half that made the score 19-14. Rutgers-Newark then closed out the first stanza with a 13-8 run to close the half and take a 32-22 lead into the locker room.
A bucket by Doze Ikuwegbu to start the second-half put Rutgers-Newark by 12 at 34-22. R-MC responded with a 19-6 run, taking a 41-40 lead on a three-pointer by Giggetts.
The game remained tight the entire half with several lead changes and neither squad able to get much breathing room from the other.
R-MC led 62-59 with 28 left when Rutgers-Newark's Pedro Burgos tied the game at 62 with a three-pointer. The Jackets had a chance to win the game on the other end of the court, but Giggetts' three-point attempt at the buzzer fell short.
The overtime featured two ties and five lead changes before Al' Don Muhammad put his team up 72-71 with 1:01 on the clock.
The game stayed that way until there was nine seconds remaining when R-MC's Andre Simon made his second game-winning bucket of the season to give R-MC the 73-72 win.
Randolph-Macon will be in action tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. against host Albright in the tournament championship.
