Box Score The Randolph-Macon men's basketball
team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 73-59 victory over
Lebanon Valley in the championship game of the Rinso Marquette
Tournament hosted by LVC.
R-MC got a career high 22 points
from Eric Pugh, who scored 19 points in the second half on the
strength of five shots from beyond the three point arc.
Tournament MVP Jordan Brown scored
16 points and tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.
All-Tournament Team choice David Carlson and Brandon Braxton each
scored 10 points in the win as well. Danny Jones joined Brown
with seven boards, helping R-MC to a 42-33 edge in rebounding.
R-MC came out firing taking a 22-8
lead on a Brown dunk with just under nine minutes to play in the
first-half. The Dutchmen fought back, using a 23-3 run
to close out the half and take a 31-25 advantage into the locker
room at half time.
The Jackets opened up what to be a
48 point second stanza by scoring 10 of the first 15 points, taking
a 37-36 lead on a layup by Brown with 16:25 to play in the
game.
The game remained close and with
the score tied at 41 all, Carlson gave R-MC the lead for good and
sparked what proved to be a 17-7 run by the Jackets that was capped
by a Pugh trifecta, putting the Jackets up 58-48 with just over six
minutes to play.
LVC chipped away and pulled within
nine at 64-55 with 2:50 to go, but R-MC put the game way good,
scoring nine of the game's final 13 points down the stretch to seal
the victory.
Randolph-Macon will be back in
action next Sunday in its home opener versus No. 7 DeSales.
Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
