Box Score WASHINGTON, DC, -- David Carlson scored 12 points off the bench
to lead three Randolph-Macon reserves in double-figures as the
Yellow Jackets opened up the season with a 63-51 road win at
Marymount on Sunday.
It marks the first win for R-MC in 2009-10 and the first career
victory for new head coach Nathan Davis, who took over the Jackets
in April.
Joining Carlson in double-digits were Adam Desgain and Danny
Jones who each had 11 points in the victory. The trio
led R-MC's bench which outscored Marymount's reserves 36-6 for the
game.
Kevin Voelkel led R-MC with eight rebounds, while Brandon
Braxton, Desgain and Jones all grabbed six boards as well.
The R-MC (1-0) defense held Marymount to just 30.9% shooting on
the afternoon, allowing the Saints to make just 17-of-55 field
goals, including just five made shots on 21 attempts in the first
half that allowed the Yellow Jackets to go on a 26-8 run to in
final 11:45 of the first stanza and take a 35-17 lead into the
locker room at intermission.
The Saints scored the first eight points of the second half,
cutting the R-MC lead to eight when Tareck Amoury made a free-throw
with 16:23 to play in the game.
With the score 46-38, R-MC when on a 10-2 run that was capped by
a Jordan Brown slam dunk that put the Jackets up 56-40 with just
under four minutes to go, sealing the win for the Jackets.
Amoury led Marymount (0-1) with 16 points. Ronnie Barbour
had 13 points, while Sam Sentz chipped in with 11 points in a
losing effort.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it
travels to the Lebanon Valley College for the Rinso Marquette
Tournament. R-MC will take on Rutgers Newark in the first
round at 6:00 p.m.
