Three Yellow Jackets Earn AVCA Recognition

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three Yellow Jackets will enter the NCAA Tournament with All-AVCA Honors under their belts. Junior Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft/Riverheads) and sophomore Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) were named to the AVCA All-South Region Team, while senior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) was named to the AVCA All-South Region Honorable Mention squad. The South Region is made up of teams from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Southern Athletic Association, USA South Athletic Conference and the University Athletic Association.

Clark in in the top ten in the conference for hitting percentage (.257, 6th in ODAC),  total kills, (265, 7th in ODAC), kills per set (2.62, 8th in ODAC), total blocks (62, 8th in ODAC) and in the top 15 in the ODAC for blocks per set (0.61, 13th in ODAC). She is second on the team in kills and kills per set, while checking in at third for total blocks. She is also second on the team for total service aces with 31, a category in which she is in the top 20 in the ODAC. Clark was on the All-South Region Team last year as well and earned All-ODAC First Team recognition for the 2017 season. She finished the ODAC Tournament with 19 kills, 14 digs and 10 blocks, including one solo effort. She had 3.2 points per set in the tournament.

Hall, who was just named the ODAC Player of the Year and to the All-ODAC First Team, leads the ODAC in kills per set with 3.18. She is fourth in total kills with 299 and in the top five for points per set (3rd, 3.4) and total points earned (315.5). She is the team leader in all of those categories, with the exception of total points earned, which the team lead goes to fellow All-Region Yellow Jacket Clark with 328.0. This is Hall's first appearance on an All-AVCA team. Hall was also named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team, where she had 24 kills in three matches as well as four blocks.

Sallade will leave her college career with both the ODAC and Randolph-Macon title for most digs in a career. Through the conference tournament, she has 512 this season and has 5.12 digs per set. Both lead the team. She also tallied 18 service aces. In total digs, she sits third in the ODAC this year and is fifth for digs per set. For her record-breaking career, she currently totals 2,095 digs in her career. This is the third time Sallade has appeared on the All-AVCA South Region Honorable Mention Team. Sallade finished the ODAC Tournament with 40 digs in 11 sets – an average of 3.64 per set. She was named to the All-ODAC First Team in 2017 as well. 

Randolph-Macon will begin its NCAA Tournament bid tomorrow at 12:30 PM in Owings Mills, Md. against Swarthmore. R-MC currently holds the #4 ranking in the South Region while Swarthmore is ranked 6th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
