Wolfe Leads #1 R-MC Volleyball to 3-0 Sweep of #8 EMU in ODAC Quarterfinals

ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Alexia Wolfe (Midlothian, Va./James River) recorded seven kills, 19 total attacks, four digs and two block assists as the top-seeded Randolph-Macon volleyball team downed eighth-seeded Eastern Mennonite 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2017 ODAC Tournament Wednesday evening in Crenshaw Gym.

The Yellow Jackets (21-6) posted wins of 25-8, 25-8 and 25-14 over the Royals (11-17).

Defending champion R-MC will host the ODAC semifinals and finals this weekend. The Yellow Jackets will play #5 Lynchburg in the first semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. #2 Washington & Lee will face the winner of #3 Virginia Wesleyan and #6 Roanoke in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

Tickets each day are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Admission is free for students of the participating schools with a valid ID.

Senior Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) had five kills and a pair of block assists, while freshman Becca Madgwick (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) registered four kills and two block assists. Senior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) had seven assists and six digs, while sophomore Angela Tender (Manassas, Va./Stone Bridge) also had seven assists. Sophomore Emily Steffan (Salem, Va./Salem) had six assists and four digs. Senior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) had six digs, two kills, two assists and two service aces.

R-MC dominated Game 1. The Yellow Jackets built leads of 7-0 and 15-1 to start the match. EMU tallied four straight points to make it 15-5 before R-MC recorded 10 of the final 13 points to claim a 25-8 win. The Yellow Jackets had a hit percentage of .250, compared to -.333 for the Royals. Wolfe had three kills and 10 total attacks for R-MC, while Beaver and sophomore Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) both delivered two kills. Quinn registered four assists and four digs, while junior Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) had three service aces.

The Yellow Jackets kept control in the second game, pushing out to a 3-1 lead. EMU closed within two at 6-4 before R-MC scored 10 straight points to sprint to a 16-4 advantage on its way to another 25-8 decision. The Yellow Jackets had another strong hit percentage of .364, compared to -.174 for the Royals. Wolfe had three kills out of four total attacks, while Clark and Beaver both delivered a pair of kills. Junior Emily Fitzwater (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) had four block assists, while Clark added three. Tender tallied five assists and Quinn countered with three assists and two digs. McGilvery had four digs and one kill.

R-MC started strong in Game 3, scoring the first 10 points and building a 14-1 advantage on its way to a 25-14 victory. Madgwick had four kills and senior Morgan Seal (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) added three. Steffan had six assists and four digs for the Yellow Jackets.
