Sallade Service

ASHLAND, Va. – Four different Yellow Jackets scored service aces over the visiting Guilford Quakers Friday night as Randolph-Macon won 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-10) and pushed forward to 17-4 on the season and 9-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Guilford fell to 11-8 and 4-4 in the ODAC.

Senior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) and junior Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) each tallied a pair of aces while senior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) and sophomore Angela Tender (Manassas, Va. / Stone Bridge) each had one to total six for the Yellow Jackets on the night.

Quinn started in service as Randolph-Macon rallied off the first three points of the night before allowing the Quakers to put one on the board. Senior Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va. / Kettle Run) fired off another three as the Yellow Jackets took a 6-2 lead in the first set. Clark got her two service aces in three tries as the Yellow Jackets then rallied to 12-3. Guilford got four back before R-MC advanced the score to 16-8. Sophomore Alexia Wolfe (Midlothian, Va. / James River) led the team with five kills while Hall added four and Clark totaled three.

The third set started out much closer as the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie. But under the service of Sallade, which included her two aces, R-MC scored eight in a row, pushing the score to 10-2. After giving up a single Quaker point, R-MC then fired off another eight in a row under the service of Tender and her ace, making the score 18-3 before GC found another point. After more R-MC scoring, Guilford would find a small run of four to push the score to 22-10, but the Yellow Jackets would complete the victory 25-10.
