ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and freshman Isabel Wadsworth (Lake Wales, Fla. / Lake Wales) blanked their Hornet opponents in #2 and #6 Singles action on Sunday afternoon as Randolph-Macon defeated Shenandoah 9-0. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference match was the second of the season for the Yellow Jackets. With the win, the teams moves to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the ODAC.
#1 Doubles duo, Yeager and fellow sophomore Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) as well as #2 doubles pair of junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) both won their sets 8-2. Shenandoah was able to steal a couple of more games in the #3 Doubles slot, but eventually sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) and junior Tory Stribling (Troy, Va. / Fluvanna County) secured the victory 8-4.
On the singles side, #1 Singles competitor Tersigni secured the 6-2, 6-2 victory over Morgan Fuqua. Fuqua scored half of SU's overall eight wins on the singles side, scoring four before ceding to Tersigni. Tersigni is now 3-2 on the season, all from the #1 spot.
Yeager did not cede a single game to her Hornet opponent, Alyssa White, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Dantzler had similar success in #3 Singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Both won in quick fashion – they were the first two off the court this afternoon. Yeager moves to 2-2 while Dantzler moves to 4-1.
Uzer conceded a single game in each set to SU's Melodie Madison, but still completing the win 6-1, 6-1. Uzer is 4-0 on the season.
Aud won all but one game against Emma Crue in the #5 Singles slot. Aud is 4-1 this season.
Rounding out the lineup was Wadsworth, who blanked her opponent Madison Rogers 6-0, 6-0 in the #6 Singles slot. Wadsworth is 2-0 in 2018.
Randolph-Macon will host Centre in non-conference action on Thursday at 3:30.
