#14 Generals Best Yellow Jackets 8-1 in ODAC Action Tuesday

ASHLAND, Va. -- Freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) won her match against her competitor from #14 Washington and Lee, but the Generals (9-2, 6-0 ODAC) were able to get wins in the other eight matches and won the team match 8-1 in the conference opener for the women's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center in Ashland.

In doubles, the #1 duo of junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and sophomore Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York) were able to take a single game from their General competitors Michelle Fleenor and Ashton Jenne, but the pair from W&L would eventually prevail 8-1. #2 Doubles team of Junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York) and sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) also lost by the 8-1 score to Emily Kochard and Lily Horsley of W&L.

The team's lone senior, Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash), and freshman Isabel Wadsworth (Lake Wales, Fla. / Lake Wales) played their competitors in the #3 spot as close as any in doubles work. The two were successful in three games, scoring the most against the General on the day in doubles, though eventually lost to Melinda Kauffman and Maddie Hutchins 8-3.

In singles, Uzer also found success against W&L. She beat Jenne in a three-set match, winning the first set 6-4, and the third set 1-0 while Jenne captured the second set 6-1.

Dantzler also took her match to three sets, winning the first 6-4 but dropping the second 6-0. Her opponent, Horsley, won the deciding set 1-0.   

Singles #1, Tersigni, took two games from Fleenor, but Fleenor eventually won 6-2, 6-0. Yeager was able to take a game in the second set, but her opponent Kochard won 6-0, 6-1.

Rounding out the singles competition were Aud in the #5 spot. Aud took three games in the first set from her opponent Kauffman, but lost 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Tory Stribling (Troy, Va. / Fluvanna County) won a game in the second set, but lost her match 6-0, 6-1.

Randolph-Macon (2-2, 0-1 ODAC) will next face Shenandoah at 1:00 PM on Sunday at the Banks Tennis Center.
