FOREST, Va. – Senior women’s tennis player Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) was named the ODAC Player of the Week. Tomlin earned five victories as the Yellow Jackets won three matches last week.
Tomlin and the Yellow Jackets have gotten off to a 4-0 start to the season and earned two ODAC wins over Sweet Briar and Lynchburg last week. Tomlin lost only three games between the two ODAC schools, winning at the number three singles spot 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 against Sweet Briar and Lynchburg respectively.
She also earned two doubles wins playing at the number two spot with fellow senior partner Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./ Warhill). The pair beat Sweet Briar’s number two doubles team 8-4 and then handled Lynchburg’s number two team with an 8-2 victory.
Then in Sunday’s 6-3 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Tomlin won the fifth point for Yellow Jackets to clinch the win. She beat Stephany Barber in the number three singles spot 6-2 and the won 7-5 in the second set.
Tomlin is 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles for the season. The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday with two ODAC matches this weekend, playing at Guilford on Saturday and hosting Hollins on Sunday.
