McDonald Helps R-MC Women's Tennis Handle Averett 8-1

DANVILLE, Va. – The R-MC women's tennis team bounced back with an 8-1 victory over Averett University on Monday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improve to 8-1 for the season, while the Cougars fall to 4-4 for the season.

R-MC started the match by sweeping the Cougars in doubles. At the number one spot, seniors Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C./ K-12 International Academy) and Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va./ Varina) defeated the number one doubles pair 8-5.

At number two doubles, seniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) and Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va./ Warhill) won without losing a game, 8-0. At number three doubles, sophomore Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va./ Robinson Secondary) and freshman Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va./ Wilson Memorial) won 8-1 to take the third doubles point for R-MC. 

The Yellow Jackets took a 5-1 advantage in singles to claim the match. At number two singles, sophomore Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va./ York) won her match 6-3, 6-2.

Tomlin and freshman Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va./ York) won their singles matches without dropping a game in either set. Jesseman and McDonald also picked up two points at #5 and #6 singles for R-MC

R-MC will be back in action on Saturday, March 25 for a home match against Meredith at 3:30 p.m.
