Kylliainen Sets School Record in 500 Free at ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Randolph-Macon junior Kata Kylliainen (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) set a school record in the 500 Free on Day 1 of the 2018 ODAC Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Yellow Jackets were second out of 12 teams following the first of three days of competition.

Kylliainen finished third in the 500 Free in 5:10.00. The previous program record was 5:10.65, set by Tiffany Pearsall in 2004.

In the 200 Free Relay, Kylliainen teamed with sophomore Kacey Pool (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch), junior Haylie Moore (Lexington, N.C./South Davidson) and senior Megan Granger (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) to place second in 1:40.51, a top time for the Yellow Jackets this season.

Granger took eighth in the 50 Free in 25.34, her top time this season.

Moore was eighth in the 500 Free in 5:30.40. She had a season top time in the preliminaries in 5:24.25.

Sophomore Laney Sanchez (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) was eighth in the 200 IM in 2:15.64. She recorded a season top time in the prelims in 2:15.23.

Pool placed ninth in the 50 Free in 25.46, her top time this season. Pool joined sophomore Lauren McCoy (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River), freshman Grace Landolt (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) and freshman Natalia Perdomo (Stafford, Va.) to take second in the 400 Medley Relay in 4:03.87, a top time for R-MC this season.

Landolt was ninth in the 200 IM in 2:15.92, her top time this season.

Junior Lindsei Hamilton (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) was ninth in the 500 Free in 5:19.15, her top time this season.

Freshman Caroline Pifer (Lutherville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was 10th in the 50 Free in 25.84, her top time this season.

McCoy was 11th in the 50 Free in 25.94, her top time this season.

Day 2 preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with finals starting at 6 p.m.
