CHESTERFIELD, Va. - Junior Kata Kylliainen (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) finished second in the 500 Free out of 43 competitors on Day 1 of the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center.
The Yellow Jackets were fifth in the team standings out of 11 schools.
Kylliainen covered the 500 yards in 5:12.38. She teamed with sophomore Lauren McCoy (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River), freshman Grace Landolt (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) and freshman Natalia Perdomo (Stafford, Va.) to finish seventh out of 20 quartets in the 400 Medley Relay.
In the meet's first event, senior Megan Granger (Midlothian, Va./Manchester), McCoy, junior Haylie Moore (Lexington, N.C./South Davidson) and sophomore Kacey Pool (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) combined to take eighth out of 20 teams in the 200 Free Relay in 1:43.44. Freshman Carolina Pifer (Lutherville, Md./Notre Dame Prep), freshman Abby Baker (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), sophomore Abbey Crank (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) and senior Savannah Pierce (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) were 12th in 1:45.05.
Junior Lindsei Hamilton (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) was 13th in the 500 Free in 5:25.54, followed by Granger in 16th in 5:29.84.
Crank finished 11th out of 37 individuals in the 200 IM in 2:19.79, followed by sophomore Zoe Campbell (Annandale, Va./WT Woodson) in 12th in 2:19.97, Moore 15th in 2:21.12 and Baker in 20th in 2:23.21.
Pifer was 18th out of 70 participants in the 50 Free in 25.99. McCoy took 21st in 26.29.
The second session will be on Saturday beginning at 8:45 a.m., followed by the third and final session at 4:45 p.m.
