Kylliainen Sets Meet Record in 1650 Free for R-MC at YJI

CHESTERFIELD, Va. - Sophomore Kata Kylliainen (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) set a meet record in the 1650 Free Saturday as the Randolph-Macon women's swimming team finished fifth out of 11 teams on Day 2 the 2016 Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center.

Kylliainen finished first our of 32 swimmers in the 1650 Free in 17:37.79, besting the meet record of 17:43.47 set by Julia Portmann of Washington College in 2015.

In the 200 Free, Kylliainen was fifth out of 64 competitors in the 200 Free in 1:58.28. Freshman Laney Sanchez (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) was one place behind in sixth in 1:59.10.

Freshman Kacey Pool (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) took third out of 35 competitors in the 200 Back in 2:11.47.

Pool also finished fourth out of 47 swimmers in the 100 Back in 1:00.95. Freshman Lauren McCoy (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) was one spot behind in fifth in 1:01.88.

Freshman Zoe Campbell (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) finished eighth out of 24 swimmers in the 200 Fly in 2:15.23.

Freshman Abbey Crank (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) was 10th out of 24 in the 400 IM in 4:56.20.

The Yellow Jackets had three of the Top 12 finishers out of 31 performers in the 100 Breast. Sanchez was 10th in 1:11.22, Crank was 11th in 1:11.89 and senior Sierra Collins (Ronda, N.C./Salem Academy) was 12t in 1:12.07.

Sanchez was also 11th out of 28 in the 200 Breast in 2:34.12.

Randolph-Macon returns to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 10 at home at 1 p.m. against York.
