BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Freshman Casey Kent (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) netted the game's lone goal late in the first half as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory at Bridgewater in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (6-4-1, 3-2 ODAC) controlled play through most of the first half. R-MC snapped the scoreless tie in the 37th minute as Kent found the back of the net from 25 yards out to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) assisted on Kent's goal. R-MC had a 10-0 advantage on shots in the first period.
The Eagles (10-2-1, 3-1 ODAC) did have six shots in the second half, but were not able to score as the Yellow Jackets claimed the 1-0 win.
R-MC held a 17-6 edge in shots for the contest. Kent paced the victors with eight shots, including three on goal, while Nelson added three shots.
Sophomore Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had one save for the Yellow Jackets.
The R-MC midfield and defense, led by senior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville), senior Courtney Taylor (Prince George, Va./Prince George), junior Maddie Burns (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run), junior Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School), sophomore Haley Silva (Henrico, Va./Deep Run), have recorded four shutouts in its past six matches.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a 7:30 p.m. home ODAC contest against Eastern Mennonite on Day Field.
