FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Junior Mary Virginia Kelley (Midlothian, Va./James River) capped a three-goal outburst in the first half as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team won at Mary Washington 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-2-1, while the Eagles evened their record at 3-3.
R-MC netted a pair of first-half goals on penalty kicks. Freshman Taylor Drucker (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) connected in the 30th minute to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 advantage. Six minutes later, senior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) finished her own PK to give R-MC a 2-0 edge. Kelley scored off of a free kick in the 42nd minute as the Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead at intermission. R-MC held a 7-4 advantage in shots in the first period, including 7-1 for shots on goal. Freshman Meghan Skevington (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) paced the visitors with three first-half shots.
The Eagles scored their lone goal in the 52nd minute to make the final 3-1.
R-MC had an 11-8 edge in shots for the match. Skevington finished with five shots, four on goal.
Sophomore Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) snared three saves for the Yellow Jackets, including two in the second half.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Saturday, Sept. 16 for a 1:30 p.m. contest against Roanoke to begin ODAC play.
