Whitman Scores Five Goals as R-MC Falls at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led Randolph-Macon with five goals, two assists and seven points, but Roanoke posted a 22-14 victory in ODAC women's lacrosse action Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (9-7, 6-4) will be the No. 5 seed in the ODAC Championship and will make a return trip to fourth-seeded Roanoke on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the ODAC Quarterfinals.

The Maroons scored seven of the game's first nine goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest. R-MC answered by netting six of the next eight to trail 9-8 with 3:23 left in the first period. Roanoke scored the final two goals of the half to take an 11-8 advantage at intermission.

Roanoke tallied the first three goals of the second stanza to take a 14-8 lead. R-MC scored three straight to make it 14-11. The Maroons put the game away by netting eight of the next nine goals to assume a commanding 22-12 lead. The Yellow Jackets scored the final two goals to make it 22-14.

Whitman also paced the Yellow Jackets with seven draw controls. Freshman Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) had four goals and one assist for five points, while sophomore Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) had one goal and two assists for four points.
