R-MC Rallies Past Virginia Wesleyan
ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon scored 11 of the game's final 13 goals in defeating Virginia Wesleyan 14-6 Wednesday evening in ODAC women's lacrosse action at Day Field.
The Yellow Jackets (9-6, 6-3) trailed 4-3 midway through the first half before scoring the final four goals of the period to take a 7-4 lead at intermission.
R-MC netted seven of the first eight goals of the second period to take a 14-5 advantage before the Marlins (5-10, 3-6 ODAC) netted the final goal of the match.
Sophomores Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) and Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) both scored four goals for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Audrey Hester (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and freshman Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) both netted a pair of goals for R-MC. Sophomore Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) led the Yellow Jackets with three assists.
R-MC held a huge advantage in shots (37-16) and in draw controls (16-6). Whitman paced the Yellow Jackets with 13 shots, 10 shots on goal and nine draw controls. Snee and freshman Jesse Cornbrooks led R-MC with five ground balls. Snee and Jamieson topped the victors with four caused turnovers each.
Randolph-Macon has clinched a berth in the ODAC Championship. The Yellow Jackets play their final regular-season contest on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at Roanoke to determine their seed in the tournament.
