WINCHESTER, Va. – Sophomores Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) both scored twice, but Randolph-Macon dropped a 9-7 decision at Shenandoah in ODAC women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets (8-6, 5-2) scored four of the first six goals of the game to take a 4-2 lead. Junior Betsy Hebert (Lutherville, Md./Roland Park Country) scored with seven minutes remaining in the first half and Russo netted her second goal two minutes later as the teams headed to intermission tied at 4-4.
Sophomore Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) scored 1:25 into the second half as the Yellow Jackets (7-6, 4-3) took their first lead. Whitman registered her second goal with 25 minutes remaining to give R-MC a 6-4 lead. SU scored the next five goals to take a 9-6 advantage. Sophomore Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) scored for the Yellow Jackets with eight minutes left, making the final 9-7.
R-MC held a 12-7 advantage in draw controls. Whitman led all players with seven. She also paced the Yellow Jackets with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman goalkeeper Allie Walker (Lutherville, Md./Mercy) recorded seven saves for R-MC.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 12 with a 12 noon ODAC contest against Sweet Briar. It will be Senior Day, as R-MC will recognize its lone senior, midfielder Audrey Hester (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run).
