Whitman Tallies Six Goals as R-MC Drops Close ODAC Match to Guilford
ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) led all scorers with six goals as Randolph-Macon was edged by Guilford 20-18 in ODAC women's lacrosse action at Day Field.
The Quakers (3-2, 1-0 ODAC) took an early 4-1 lead before the Yellow Jackets (3-3, 0-1 ODAC) scored five of the next seven goals to knot the score at 6-6. R-MC eventually took an 11-9 lead at intermission. Whitman had four of her six goals in the first period.
Whitman scored the first goal of the second half at the Yellow Jackets took their largest lead at 12-9. Guilford tallied six of the next seven goals to claim a 16-13 advantage with 20:35 remaining. The Quakers extended the lead to four at 18-14 with 16:37 left before R-MC scored three straight to pull to within one at 18-17 with 13:32 to go. The Quakers added a goal with 10:53 remaining to again make it a two-goal game at 19-17 with 10:53 left. Senior Audrey Hester (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) found the back of the net with 4:55 remaining to make it 19-18. Guilford added an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining to make the final 20-18.
Sophomore Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) had four goals for the Yellow Jackets, while Hester added three and freshman Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) put in 12. Sophomore Katie Russo (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and freshman Jessie Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) both recorded four assists, while Jamieson added a pair of assists.
Randolph-Macon hits the road for an ODAC contest at Lynchburg on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
