ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) recorded five goals as Randolph-Macon dropped an 18-10 decision to St. Mary's at Day Field.
The game was originally scheduled for March 8 at St. Mary's, but was moved to the R-MC campus due to unplayable field conditions.
Jamieson scored four of her goals in the second half. Senior Audrey Hester (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) added two goals, while sophomores Natalie Schnell (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) as well as freshman Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) each added a goal for the Yellow Jackets (2-2).
The Seahawks (2-3) scored the first four goals of the contest in building an early advantage. R-MC registered three of the next four goals to narrow the gap to 5-3. St. Mary's scored the final three goals of the first half to take an 8-3 lead and also tallied the first three of the second half in building an 11-3 advantage. The Yellow Jackets had four of the next five scores to make it 12-7 with 16:30 remaining in the contest. The Seahawks then recorded five of the next six goals to take a commanding 16-8 edge with less than five minutes left.
Tori Poffenberger had seven goals for St. Mary's, while Shelby Newman added six.
R-MC held a 19-11 edge in draw controls. Both teams had 10 saves. Freshman Allie Walker (Lutherville, Md./Mercy) started and had four saves in the first half, while freshman Jamie Langbein.(Olney, Md./Sherwood) recorded six in the second half.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, March 12, for a 4:00 p.m. contest against visiting Medaille at Day Field.
