NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sophomore Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas, Cypress-Woods) scored three goals, but the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-9 decision at Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) scored five of the game's first nine goals, owning a 5-4 advantage near the midway point of the first half. Sophomore Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) had two of those five goals for R-MC. The Captains (1-2) would score six straight goals to take a 10-5 lead. Jamieson found the net with 19 seconds left in the period as the Yellow Jackets trailed 10-6 at intermission.
CNU scored the first eight goals of the second half, building a commanding 18-6 advantage. Jamieson snapped the string with a pair of unassisted goals.
Whitman had two goals and an assist for five points. She led all players with 17 draw controls.
Jamieson and Whitman are tied for the team lead with six goals this season, while Whitman tops the team with eight points (six goals, two assists).
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 5 with a 5:30 p.m. home contest against Marymount at Day Field.
