ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Jenelle Whitman (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) scored four goals and added one assist to help the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team post an 18-9 season-opening victory over Greensboro at Day Field.
The Yellow Jackets (1-0) scored the final four goals of the first period to snap a 5-5 tie and take a 9-5 advantage over the Pride (1-1) at intermission. Sophomore attack Shannon Jamieson (Cypress, Texas/Cypress-Woods) had two of those four goals and finished the game with three goals.
R-MC led 10-7 early in the second half before netting six straight goals to take control at 16-7.
The Yellow Jackets had nine different players score in head coach MK Geratowski's first game at R-MC. Sophomore attack Katie Russo (Cockeyesville, Md./Dulaney) had three goals, while senior midfielder Audrey Hester (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and sophomore attack Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) both added a pair of goals. Yellow Jackets with one goal included freshman midfleider Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll), junior attack Betsy Hebert (Lutherville, Md./Roland Park Country), junior attack Allie Franklin (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) and freshman attack Jessie Cornbrooks (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan).
Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Langbein (Olney, Md./Sherwood) recorded five saves in 47 minutes for R-MC.
Randolph-Macon travels to Christopher Newport on Saturday, March 1, for a 1 p.m. contest.
