Ashland, VA – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Lacrosse team handed Shenandoah University its second conference loss with a 10-9 victory on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets improve 11-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
The Yellow Jackets were led by three goals from Emily Lynch and two from Shannon Jamieson and Jackie Martin. Lynch also had a game-high four caused turnovers and picked up two groundballs. Tricia Mangas led the defense with three groundballs and one caused turnover.
R-MC, winners of their last three, went down 1-0 before Martin sparked a 4-0 run with a goal at the 22:18 mark. Kim Wright and Lynch scored while Betsy Hebert capped the run off a Katie Russo assist with 12:40 left to play.
Shenandoah answered with two goals in the final two minutes of play to pull within one at the half.
Samantha Sisson opened up the scoring in the second half with a free position goal at the 25:20 mark to tie the game at 5-5. Lynch followed with an unassisted goal to take the lead, but Sisson answered with her third goal to tie the game once again at 6-6.
With just under 20 minutes left to play, Martin gave the Yellow Jackets the 7-6 lead with a free position goal. Lynch followed Martin just 43 seconds later to increase the R-MC lead to 8-6.
Randolph-Macon got two more goals from Jamieson and Russo to go up by three, 10-7, with 10 minutes left on the clock.
The Hornets rallied with two goals in the last six minutes of play, but that is as close as they would get as R-MC held on for the 10-9 victory.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on April 20th as they play host to Christopher Newport University for a 1:00 p.m. game. Prior to the game R-MC will honor their senior class.
