LANCASTER, Pa. – The R-MC women's basketball team won in dominating fashion versus Franklin & Marshall 64-49 on Saturday afternoon. Two Yellow Jackets recorded double-doubles with freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) scoring 17 points and grabbing 15 rebounds while sophomore Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) also scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out a to a 14-1 lead in the first quarter and held the Diplomats for over seven minutes before giving up a field goal. R-MC led after the first quarter 16-7.
R-MC extended its lead in the second period and led 29-18 at the half. Williams led all scorers with 11 points.
Randolph-Macon shot 42 percent from the field in the win over F&M. R-MC forced 23 turnovers, scoring 26 points off them.
The third player to score in double figures for the Yellow Jackets was junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) who went 5 of 8 from the field for 13 points.
Williams tallied her sixth double double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds. She shot 50 percent from the field and grabbed nine offensive rebounds. Williams also recorded two three assists, two steals and two blocks.
Ross scored 17 points coming off the bench. She shot 7 of 11 from the field to score 17 points. She also dished out four assists and blocked two shots. R-MC scored 21 points off of second chance points compared to F&M scoring only seven.
R-MC out powered F&M in the fourth quarter, winning the game 64-49. R-MC improves to 6-4 with the win.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on January 3 when they travel to Bridgewater for ODAC play.
