ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team registered its first ODAC and third consecutive win of the season with an 84-76 victory over Washington and Lee. Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) recorded her fourth double double of the season with a team high 19 points and 18 rebounds.
Another major contributor on the night for R-MC was junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale), who tallied 18 points.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The two teams traded leads in the first quarter, with W&L outscoring R-MC, 20-18.
In the second quarter, Washington and Lee took its largest lead of the game and led R-MC 41-34 at the half.
R-MC then took over in the second half of the game. The Yellow Jackets shot 51.4% from the field in the second half. Freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) was the third Yellow Jacket to register double digit points, as she scored 12 on the night.
Macon (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) would go on to outscore W&L (2-3, 1-1 ODAC) by 15 points in the second half. R-MC had 20 steals in the game, Ross and junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) led the team with five each.
Senior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./ Fairfax) led both teams in assists with a season best eight.
For the visitors, Emily Perszyk scored 25 points, going 17 for 19 from the free throw line.
The Yellow Jackets will be back on the court on Saturday, December 3 when they host #2 nationally ranked Amherst at 5:00 p.m.
